LAYERING 101

SKINCARE 101- COMPLETE GUIDE TO LAYERING SKINCARE

🔹To get full benefits of your skincare products you need to apply them in the correct order or else you will just end up wasting you time and product and still not get any results.

🔹When it comes to layering of skincare products many questions, when to apply? How to apply? Correct order?

🔹Now let's start from the basic rule

RULE OF THUMB (#1):

🔸The rule is to apply products based on their textures. While some can easily penetrate into our skin, some may take time due to there thick texture.

🔸Basic rule is to go from thinner texture products to thicker texture ones. From water-based products to cream-based products.

🔸Water-based products are lightweight and can be easily absorbed by our skin and then we move to creamy-textured products which are heavier in consistency and creates a barrier around skin.

🔸So this was the basic rule, now we move forward to advance rule.

RULE OF THUMB (#2)

🔸The rule is to apply products based on pH levels.

🔸Ideal skin is slightly acidic and has a pH level of 5.5, though it may seem difficult finding pH balanced skincare routine is easier than it seems.

🔸Apply products with lower pH level first them with higher pH.

🔸move with products with acidic nature to alkaline nature products.

pH:
The term “pH” refers to “potential of hydrogen”. It concerns the activity of hydrogen ions (ions are molecules that carry a positive or negative charge) in a water-based solution.

pH is referred by a numerical scale which runs from (0.0-14.0). 7.0 is neutral while anything below 7.0 is acidic in nature and above 7.0 is Alkaline.

Disturbing your skin's pH level may lead in many skin concerns

Understanding how pH level works:

 ▪ A pH of 5.0 is 10x more acidic than a pH of 4.0

 ▪ A pH of 3.0 is 100x more acidic than and a pH of 5.0

▪A pH of 2.0 is 1000x more acidic than a pH of 5.0

🔹Products with high pH(8.0 and above) may make your skin smooth at first but damage your skin in the long run. They tend to strip out sebum and natural oils from our skin, resulting in dryness, redness, inflammation, scaling and cause breakouts.

 PRODUCTS AND THEIR pH:

 ▪Cleansers: pH 4.5–7

 ▪Toners: pH 5–7

 ▪Sunscreens: pH 5–7.5

▪AHA and BHA Exfoliants: pH 3.2–3.9, with any reading between 3 and 4 considered most effective

 ▪Moisturizers: pH 5–7

 ▪Serums: pH 4–6

 ▪Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) products: pH 2.6–3.2

▪Retinol products: pH 3.7–5
